| :: Awareness workshop on Industrial Cluster Development |
A one day awareness workshop on Industrial Cluster Development was organised by Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP) and the Industries Department at Kochi during October 17,2003. Ms. Anita Das, National Expert, UNIDO, New Delhi detailed through her technical presentation about the role of UNIDO in Cluster Development. Mr. Padmanand, Cluster Expert explained the importance of Cluster formation and its usefulness. Mr. Vikraman, Chief General Manager, SIDBI, Shri. Gopalakrishna, AGM, SBI, Mumbai etc also addressed and interacted with the gathering. |
:: Visit of Korean Team

Mr. Hyo Choo Yoon, Director, Korea Trade Centre, Chennai visited Kerala during September 2003 and had discussions with the Cluster actors at Alappuzha & Kottayam. The main aim of the visit was to have tie up with the existing cluster members for procurement of chemicals and other ingredients in the manufacture of coir and rubber products. The Kottayam Rubber Consortium has already initiated action for the import of synthetic rubber from Korea. |
:: Senior Experten Services (SES), Germany

Ms. Sabine Smith, Project coordinator – Asia, SES, Germany, Mr. Deleroi, Senior Expert SES, Germany and Mr. Rajneesh Jain , Representative – India, SES visited Kerala during April 24 -27, 2004. We had organized their visits to the various Industrial Clusters already developed at Changanassery , Perumbavoor, Kalady etc. A detailed interaction was also held with the Consortium members during the visit. A one day interactive meeting was also arranged at Kochi during April 26 in which entrepreneurs from the State, the trained Cluster Development Agents, Government officials and cluster members were able to have a one to one interaction about the activities of SES. |
:: Awareness Workshop on Food Processing & Packaging |
An Awareness Workshop on latest Technologies, packaging techniques, machinery etc. in the Food Processing sector was organised at Kozhikode, Palakkad & Kochi during July 28, 29 & 30, 2004. Experts from CFTRI, Mysore & HACCP Consultant, handled the technical sessions. We are regularly interacting with the various trained Cluster Development Agents and the officials of the District Industries Centres for proper follow up and development of the Industrial Clusters. Several exposure visits / technical tie up etc. are also organized.
Based on the activities initiated as mentioned above, the following Clusters have already been developed and many others are being developed. The details of the developed and the developing Clusters are given below. |
:: Awareness Workshop for lead bank managers. |
A one day Awareness Workshop was organized at Thiruvananthapuram on 5 th August, 2004 for the Controlling Officers and Lead Bank Managers of the State in order to make them aware the importance and role of the Financial Institutions in Cluster Development programme. The Financial Institutions are considered as Business Development Service (BDS) providers. Shri. P. K. Kunhalikutty, Hon'ble Minister (Industries & IT), Government of Kerala inaugurated the workshop. The Regional Director of RBI, CGM of SBI, Convener, SLBC and other top level officials from the Lead Banks attended the programme. Senior Officials in the Industries Department also participated in the Workshop.

| :: Training Programme for Bankers & other Financial Institutions. |
A three day Training Programme on Industrial Cluster Development was organized at Kochi during September 8, 9 & 10, 2004 for officials of Banks & other financial institutions. 31 members from 16 leading banks/ Financial Institutions participated in the training programme. Shri. Mukesh Gulati, Focal Point Manager, UNIDO- CDP & Shri. V. Padmanand, Expert, Cluster Development handled the classes during the training programme. |
| :: Training programme for the officials of Department of Coir as Cluster Development Agents (CDA’s) |
The first phase of the training programme for the officials of Department of Coir as Cluster Development Agents was conducted during 19th - 29th October 2004 at Kochi. 20 officials from the Department of Coir and 3 from Kerala Coir Workers Welfare Fund Board participated in the training programme. The 2nd phase of the training programme is scheduled to be conducted during December 13 -18, 2004 at Kochi. |
