REPORT
AROGYA CHENNAI – 2005 (January 7 – 9, 2005)

India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) in collaboration with Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homeopathy (AYUSH), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, organised Arogya 2005 at Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai from January 7-9, 2005.
The main objectives of the programme was:
Projecting traditional system of medicine along with allopathy, enabling practitioners of various systems of medicines to learn from each other.
Presenting the Research & Development efforts of Institutions & Agencies & disseminating the same.
Projecting India’s capabilities and requirements in health care.
The inaugural session of Arogya 2005 was held on 7th January 2005. His Excellency, Shri. Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the programme, which was presided over by Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare. Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi, Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare was also present during the inaugural session.

Industries Department, Government of Kerala made their presence in the Arogya 2005 by setting up a Kerala State Pavilion in the Fair. Nine leading entrepreneurs from our State participated under the Kerala State Pavilion by displaying their products / services. His Excellency, Shri. Surjith Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the Kerala State Pavilion.

The following are the participants under the Kerala State Pavilion:

The Kerala State Pavilion was set up in an area of 54 sq. mtrs. Table space was provided to each participating unit free of cost as part of providing platform for the Ayurveda / Herbal industries to interact with outside agencies / entrepreneurs engaged in the above sector. The setting up of State Pavilion was coordinated by Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP).

Paper presentation / Lectures on Ayush systems were made by eminent Doctors in the    particular sector and are as follows:  

i)                  SIDDHA 

(a) Immuno Modulatory activity of Siddha Drugs
(b) Diabetes mellitus and its management in Siddha way
(c) Non operative treatment for piles

ii)                AYURVEDA 

(a) Management of piles and fistula through kshara karma (Ayush & Siddha Minimal non- invesive para surgical measure)
(b) Ways and Means to lead and happy life Ayurveda view
(c)  Management of Arthritis 

iii)              UNANI 

(a) Unani in New Milleniun
(b) Unani treatment for common diseases

  iv)             HOMEOPATHY
 

(a) Homeopathy approach to cancer
(b) Spirit of Homeopathy on thyroid disorders

v)               YOGA 

(a)
The role of Yoga for health
(b) Yoga for diabetes and Hypertension 

Specialty clinics were set up for Siddha, Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy through out the programme, which were handled by eminent doctors in the respective fields.

The participated units (under Kerala State pavilion) were able to wide open the market for their products.  New dealers were also identified for marketing their products in Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai which is a very strong base for Ayurveda / Herbal products consumers.  They are also willing to participate in the forthcoming events in the sector and requested us to inform them in this regard. 

Around 45 leading entrepreneurs / Government Departments made their presence in Arogya 2005 by actively participated in the event and by setting up stalls.  Department of Ayush with a delegation of 18 relevant Departments made their presence in the Fair. The valedictory function of the fair was held on January 9, 2005 at 8.00 AM.
